Amidst a surfeit of thesis ideas, Toofy—the cavity-filled, grill-sporting tooth stuffed toy—emerged from my sewing machine. He is often confused with his counterpart, Sofu-Gurabu—the mascot for Sofu-Glove Magazine. I arrived at the concept of a cavity-filled "cute-tooth" when considering the reactions of some Western viewers (especially designers), who may experience cuteness overload when faced with saccharine kawaii imagery.
